Travel to Singapore (Day 1) : National Museum of Singapore

Yesterday was the first day of my Singapore Tour. This one is the second trip to Singapore for me. Just like my last trip, i went to Singapore through Batam. Not like several years ago where the airplane ticket and fiscal fee was quite expensive, right now it should be more convenient and cheaper if you go from Surabaya to Singapore directly by airplane. But unfortunately, that time i ran out of airplane tickets. Because that time i suddenly was invited by my friends who want to travel to singapore for the first time, so there was no enough preparation in this trip. Airplane from Surabaya to Batam should departed at 9 o’clock, but there was a delay on the flight. We finally departed from Juanda International Airport, Surabaya arround 10 o’clock.

Travel to Singapore via Batam

We finally arrived at Batam Hang Nadim Airport at 12 o’clock. If you are backpacker who like to minimize the cost, then buy Batam-Singapore Ferry Ticket at the airport. Buying ferry ticket at Airport usually about SGD $2 cheaper than buying at ferry terminal. From Airport you can go to Batam Center (The nearest ferry terminal from Airport) by taxi. The cost is about Rp. 70.000 (SGD $ 9.62). It just need 15 minutes from Batam Hang Nadim Airport to Batam Center.

Batam Center International Ferry Terminal

Arrive at Batam Centre, you can buy the ferry ticket at first floor. There are two ferry company that operate at Batam Centre, which are Penguin Ferry and Batam Fast. Even the Batam Fast ticket seem cheaper (SGD $16) than Penguin (SGD $32), basically they are same when totalized. The ferry ticket price for round way (including tax) is SGD $45. You’ll get more expensive price, if you buy this ticket from Singapore. There always a ferry departure each hour neither from Batam or from Singapore. To go from Batam Center to Harbourfront Singapore, the ferry need about 1 hour of trip.
After bought the ticket, i need to go to fiscal booth to confirmed my NPWP (Tax ID). After that i went to the immigration check. After passed the immigration, we wait for about more than half hour, we finally departed from ferry terminal to Singapore at 2 o’clock.

Arrive at Harbourfront Ferry Terminal

We finally arrived to Singapore ferry terminal after half hour of trip. We went on immigration check again there. This time the queue was unusually long. We spent about more than 1 hour in the immigration only. After finally passed the immigration check, i was checked once again by immigration officer. I was suspected of carrying prohibited goods. The officer asked me to unpack my bags. After passed the examination, i finally came out from the ferry terminal. Exit from Ferry Terminal, you will immediately enter the shopping mall. That time i just follow the MRT sign board to go to Harbourfront MRT Station. At MRT Station i immediately buy EZLink for SGD $ 15. EZLink is a card that used to pay transportation like bus or MRT in Singapore.

Check in Hotel

I take MRT to go to my hotel, Summer View Hotel. My hotel located at Bencoolen Street. So i got off at Bras Basah MRT station (For Singapore MRT Map click here). That time, i was a little confused looking for the location of this Summer View hotel. But in the end after asking people, I finally could find this hotel. The hotel where i stayed is not very good and less famous. As a result many people do not know where the location of this hotel. Luckily there is one who was willing to check Google Map to help me find the hotel.

Travel to Singapore
Go to Singapore by yourself is very easy. Just pick the map from airport, hotel, or other public place. Singapore is very small. You can arround Singapore city in 3 day by walk. But it will be more convenient if you use MRT or Bus to go every place you want to go. MRT is one of backbone transport system in Singapore. So make sure you know where the nearest MRT for each place you wanna go. Singapore MRT Map can also be downloaded here. We finally arrived at the Hotel at 05:30 (Singapore Time). After rest for a while, we then went out for a walk. Because our hotel is near to National Museum of Singapore, then we choose this Singapore Museum as our first destination.

After touring the National Museum of Singapore for 40 minutes, we were finally out. Next we went to a big mall near the museum for a walk.

After take enough walk in that mall, we went back to the hotel to rest.
