Singapore Trip (Day 2) : Playing All Day in Universal Studio Singapore
On the second day of my trip, i spent my whole day at Universal Studio Singapore (USS Singapore). This international theme park just officialy opened on April 2010. So it’s not until half year since the opening. We were so excited can come to this theme park. Because it is the second Universal Studios to open in Asia, after Japan. This park right now is one of the must visited destination in South Asia during vacation. Universal Studio Singapore occupied about 20 hectares (almost half of 49 hectares) from the Resorts Worlds Sentosa area. Inside the park there are 24 attractions and 7 thematic place, which takes blockbuster movie theme on each place. There are many famous movie (Jurrasic Park, Shrek, Madagascar, The Mummy) and famous characters in the park. This park is located on Resort World Sentosa on Sentosa Island. Because USS Singapore open at 10 o’clock (local time), so we departed from our hotel around 9:30. 
How to Go to Universal Studio Singapore
To go to this park is quite easy. There are several way to go to Universal Studio Singapore. I personally use Sentosa Express that can be founded at Vivocity Mall. Sentosa Express is a small train that very similar to MRT. To go to Vivocity Mall, just take MRT North-East line (purple line), then get off at HarbourfrontMRT station. Harbourfront Mall is right beside Vivocity Mall. Just follow the sign board to Vivocity Mall. At Vivocity mall, go to third floor. There are 2 ways to buy Sentosa Express ticket. The first is purchased it manually via ticket office. The second way is purchased it via Ticket Vending Machine. The price is SGD $3 for adult or children above 3 years old.

After purchased the ticket, go to the Sentosa Express gateway. Follow the queue to enter the Sentosa Express train. Get off at Waterfront Stationto go to Universal Studio Singapore.

If you don’t want go by Sentosa Express, you can go by bus to Universal Studio Singapore. To go by bus, just go outside of VivoCity Mall and find the bus stop. The bus stop is located in front of Merrill Lynch Bank. Follow the sign board when you exit MRT HarbourFront, find “Bus to Resort World Sentosa”. Bus Number : RWS 8 Ticket Price : $2 (round way) Operating Hour : 06.00 – 23:30 
Have Fun at Universal Studio Singapore
Finally we arrived at Universal Studio Singapore. From Sentosa Express Waterfront station, you will see a giant globe that very well known as the Universal Studio logo. From here we walk to the Universal Studio Entrance Gate. If you haven’t buy the entrance ticket, you can buy at the ticket office in front of entrance gate. I personally buy the ticket at Batam Airport before go to Singapore. It is cheaper. Below are the official price of the Universal Studio Singapore entrance ticket : For Adults (13 to 64 years old):
- On week days (Monday to Friday) with a one-day pass: SGD $66
- On week days (Monday to Friday) with a one-day pass: SGD $72
- Two-days pass (any days): SGD $118
For Children (4 to 12 years old):
- On week days (Monday to Friday) with a one-day pass: SGD $48
- On week days (Monday to Friday) with a one-day pass: SGD $52
- Two-days pass (any days) : SGD $88
For Seniors (above 65 years old):
- On week days (Monday to Friday) with a one-day pass: SGD $32
- On week days (Monday to Friday) with a one-day pass: SGD $36
- Two-days pass (any days) : SGD $58
Express Pass
You can purchase Express pass if you don’t want to queue on each attractions. Express Pass give the owner of the ticket to get priority over all existing attractions at Universal Studios. The amount will be limited each day and must be purchased together when purchasing the entrance tickets. Price Addition based on Ticket Type :
- Off-Peak / Weekdays (Monday – Friday) : SGD $ 30
- Peak / Weekdays during School Holiday Season : SGD $50
- Super Peak / Weekend and Black-Out Dates : SGD $68

Universal Studio Singapore Zones
When I passed the entrance gate, we are brought back to 50′s Hollywood, complete with quaint shops, palm trees, and classic film figures such as Maryln Monroe, Frankenstein, and Charlie Chaplin. From Hollywood, you can choose to turn right to New York zone, or turn left to Madagascar zone. Universal Studios is divided into seven areas arranged like a ring. These seven areas are: Hollywood, Madagascar, Far Far Away (Shrek), Jurassic Park, Ancient Egypt, SciFi City, and New York. From Hollywood, if you turn right going toward New York, then left into Madagascar. Universal Studios Singapore is divided into 7 zones, Madagascar, Madagascar, Far Far Away, The Lost World, Ancient Egypt, Sci-Fi City, Hollywood dan New York.
Hollywood
Hollywood Zone is the first area near the entrance gate. This area is created based on Hollywood Boulevard of the 1970s. The Hollywood zone is framed by dynamic architecture, palm trees and the famous Hollywood “Walk of Fame“. You can found a lots of merchandise shops, restaurant and attractions in this zone. 
New York
This zone is built based on post-modern New York City. When you walk on this zone you will fell like being in New York city. This zone feature sidewalk and several landmarks that built by amazing architecture. You can also encounter several legendary artists like Charlie Chaplin or Marilyn Monroe in this street. If you want to take a photograph with them, you usually must queue. I personally encounter Marilyn Monroe when i came here. 
Sci-Fi City
The zone is design with future city theme. Equiped with space age technologies, all the building was arranged like a Star Trek movie. The main attraction for this area is Battlestar Gallactica which is a one of the highest rollercoaster in the world. Unfortunately at that time Battlestar haven’t operate. I heard, in the end of year 2011, new attractions Transformers 4D will be opened in this zone. 
Ancient Egypt
Ancient Egypt zone is designed of Egyptian architecture and artifacts. You will feel like in Golden Age of Egyptian Exploration in the 1930s. You can see pyramid and giant Anubis guardian on this zone. 
The Lost World
This zone is created based on Stephen Spielberg phenomenal movie, Jurassic Park. The Lost World divided into two smaller regions : Jurassic Park and Waterworld. Waterworld itself is a zone that designed based on Kevin Costner movie, Waterworld. 
Far Far Away
Far Far Away zone is designed base on the kingdom of the same name featured in Shrek movie. Shrek themed attractions, shops, and performances can be found along the way Romeo Drive (parody of Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles). In the middle of the zone you can see a giant castle that performe Shrek 4D show. 
Madagascar
The Madagascar zone features a displaced A Crate Adventure ride. It also features all of the characters from Madagascar movie. 
Recommended Attractions to play on USS Singapore
There are a lot of attractions you can play in USS Singapore. If you visit Universal Studio Singapore in holiday season, you can’t play all the attractions in just one day. So i will recommend what recommended attraction / ride to play in this park. Lights! Camera! Action! Hosted by Steven Spielberg (New York) A show where guests can be blown away by incredible special effects that shown on the stage. An empty stage will transform into the setting for a major hurricane about to hit New York City. 
Battlestar Galactica (Sci-Fi City) when i came to Singapore, it has not opened. But this attraction is a must ride attraction in Universal Studio Singapore. This roller coaster is divided into two group : Human and Cyclon. The roller coaster can reach speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour (56 mph). 
Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride (Ancient Egypt) An indoor high-speed thrill ride with sharp turns and fast reverse sections. You will experience fire, scarab beetles and mummies in darkness. 
Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure (The Lost World) This is river rapids ride version in Universal Studio Singapore. Because riding in Jurrasic Park, you will encounter a surprise during the ride. 
Shrek 4-D Adventure (Far Far Away) Its a 17-minute 3D film that take us into a journey to help save Princess Fiona in a totally in-your-face fairy tale adventure. 
After have fun in USS Singapore, we back to the hotel and rest. At night we go to Clarke Quay, one of the most beautiful place in Singapore. Because i visit this place twice during this travel, i will cover more detail about this place on my next post.
