A lot of my friends ask me about how to change favicon in their blog / website. If you don’t know what is favicon, favicon is the icon that usually appear on the left side of our title in the tab of our browser. The icon also appear as bookmark icon on your browser. The favicon is more like a logo for your website and it is advised that you use one to make your website more beautiful. I will explain how to add / change the favicon in website and the most used blogging platform (WordPress & Blogger)

Create a Favicon File

The first thing you must do is create a favicon file. You can create this by Photoshop or other graphic design tools you usually use. Icon files usually recognized with ico extention. But, for this you don’t have to use *.ico file , it can be any image file (GIF, PNG or ICO) but make sure the size of the Favicon is not too big or it will make your website become slower to open. Make sure sizes are square, it can be 16×16, 32×32, 64×64 or 128×128 (It’s better not use size larger than 128×128). You also can generate icon files from a picture. Here are tools to make favicon :

If you can’t make a favicon by yourself, you can download it from these website :

How to change favicon on  website?

For website, you just need to edit your index.html page. Just place this script below </TITLE> on your HTML code

Save the html file and upload it to your webhosting. Open your website, and the favicon will appear.

How to change favicon on WordPress?

Once you have uploaded the Favicon, enter your Admin Area (http://yourblogname.com/wp-admin), and click Appearance>Editor. Open  Header.php file in your WordPress admin panel. Paste this code anywhere in the file:

<link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”favicon.ico” />

Once this is done save the settings and open your site. You should see your new Favicon next to your web URL on the address bar.

Alternately you can use WordPress plug-in WP Favicon or Admin Favicon. Search on WordPress Plug-In Add New area. Install and activate it and enter the path of the Favicon in the plug-in options.

How to change favicon on Blogger?

By default, favicon in blogger would be like this :

If you use free blogger (blogspot), you’ll need to upload the favicon file in free images hosting or photo sharing like Photobucket or Tinypic. If you use blogger on your own domain, you can upload the favicon file into your website directory.

Now enter your Blogger control panel. Click Design>Edit HTML. Look for the “<title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>” code in the editor. Once you’ve found the text paste the following code below it :

Click Save Template, and try to open your blog again. You should see your new Favicon.

Some days recently, I rarely updated my blog. In addition to many family issues, now i’m busy re-studying on web programming techniques.This is kinda weird, because i majored in engineering informatics. There I learned a lot about web design programming. Actually, in college, I had time to explore web design techniques ranging from HTML Coding (include old fashioned way using notepad and new ways using third party programs like Dreamweaver or MS Frontpage), Web Database Programming, ASP, PHP, and other techniques. But maybe because since graduated from college until now, i’ve never worked in occupations that require a lot of web programming, I finally forgot.

Because now I start entering internet marketing field, I was interested to learn again about web programming. But yes it was the problem. So many things, i already forgot. P Now, even if just talk HTML, i more like people who lost memories. I therefore tried to repeat all the lessons I have ever received before. I will continue about my investing & trading lesson. After you understand the risk i explained in my previous post, the first thing you must learn is about the basic knowledge. Ok…. I will start with Forex. Why Forex? Because, it kinda easy to understand.

Forex Market

Forex (Foreign exchange) market is the oldest market in the world. Forex Market also known as largest market in the world. The market working 24-hours a day from monday 04:00 AM to saturday 04:00 AM (my time is GMT+7). Because of its large volume of transactions every day, forex market is the highest liquidity of all the financial market.What to trade in Forex Market?

Currency Pairs (example : EUR/USD, USD/CHF, AUD/USD, etc).

Make Money on Forex

The concept about how we make money is very easy to understand. Just imagine how you buy Dollar / Euro currency on bank / money changer. If you buy dollar when the price is low and sell it when the price is high, then you’ll make profit. If you do the opposite, then you’ll lose money. The difference between what price you bought and what you sold is your profits / losses.

There are some differences between modern to traditional forex market (money changer). I will explain more detail in my next post. But for now, what you need to know is this. One of main difference between modern and traditional forex market is how the trade you can apply. If you can only buy in traditional market, you can do both (buy / sell) in modern forex market. If you buy and the price going higher, then you’ll make profit. If you sell and the price going lower, then you’ll make profit. If the currency pair move on the opposite way, then you’ll loose money.

So if you buy EUR/USD 1.3512 its mean that you buying 1 EURO by selling 1.3512 USD

There are several Currency usually trade in the market. They are :

USD = US Dollar

EUR = Euro

GBP = Poundsterling

JPY = Japanesse Yen

CHF = Swissy (Switchterland Currency)

CAD = Canadian Dollar

etc…

Ok… let’s continue with what is currency pair…

- Currency Pair

Question raised by most trader when they meet other trader is asking in what currency pair they usually trade. So… what is the currency pair? Currency Pair is a pair of 2 currency that traded in forex market.

Example : EUR/USD = 1.4589, so it’s mean that 1 Euro = 1.3255 USD

In Forex, there is a term called Based Currency. Based Currency is the currency that mentioned first in currency pair. And the currency mentioned after that called Counter Currency. Example : EUR/USD, the Based Currency of this pair is EUR, and Counter Currency is USD

There are a lot of currency pair in forex market, here are some of them :

Posting dari salah satu blog ini sangat membantu untuk anda yang masih buta sama sekali tentang pajak. Do you ever heard your friends, families, colleagues said the they got bankrupt after play in Stock, Option or Forex Market? I am sure you frequently hear that, maybe dozen of times, maybe hundreds of times. It’s really true. There some theory said that 90% trader loss in this world. I don’t know exactly is this number really true or not. But the fact about the amount of unsuccess trader much greater than successful one is really true.

I found some interesting stories in the largest forum community in my country, kaskus. In thread posted by acangz, there is a discussion about people experiences after knowing forex trading. Most of them ever got bankrupt. I translated some of these stories in English.

Story 1

First, i deposit $100. Eh… only 3 days it’s already become $1.500 then I witdhraw it. I just know that if we witdhraw in MT4 Broker the account doesn’t disappear suddenly. The bad is… after 1 day +, almost 2 days it’s didn’t processed and i didn’t complain because i feel i was only newbie. Know i got large amount of money, i just want to witdhraw it as soon as possible. Too bad, it couldn’t be witdhraw directly. There are a lot of rules i must read. I feel itchy and keep doing some trade while waiting my witdhrawal process to be done. Too bad, i got margin call and i can’t do anything on it

Story 2

my personal experiences in trading was like this…

just understand, i only newbie. so i place careless order month 1 until 4, i consistent to wake up in the morning and i place buy and sell in corellation pair. only TP about 10 pips each pair. i place 10% margin. never read news. if i place an order, i just didn’t do anything on it. i watch it 1 day after that. if it minus it liquidated. if profit it witdhrawn 50%.

month 1 :16 days profits and the rest losses.
month 2 :10 days profits and the rest losses.
month 3 :18 days profits and the rest losses.
month 4 :12 days profits and the rest losses.

the event happen in the beginning of month 5

because there was my friend withdraw his account with fantastic amount. i was corious and decide to trade on top speed to make profit. and the result, in several second, i got margin call, because i made mistake placing the lot. I entered 100 lot (unit in mar*ktv) on my MT4 real account. It’s automatically Margin Call. Thats enough for my suffer (careless)

Story 3

My biggest losses in forex about 175 pips aka $ 17.500. hahaha… its because of non farm payroll. The story was like this, bro. Friday night after family event in my place, ok…. because i couldn’t see chart continously at that moment, i place take profit and stop loss. I hope in worried while sometimes looking saxobank in my mobile phone. After the news released, the price rose 30 point from my buy price… wah… i am so reliefed already make profit 20 poin (i place take profit only 20 point)… 10 minutes after i look saxobank in my mobile phone… the price already down 195 point from my price. i was in hurry turn on my computer, watched the graphic. it’s really true like what i fear. take profit and stop loss suddenly disappeared on its own 30 minutes after news released. So 30 point jump was useless… so it’s minus, so bad luckkkkk…. it’s ok. loss or profit its part of business, no need to regret.

This is only three example of thousand or maybe million stories of a trader who try to get rich from Forex. I think you will found a lot of story like this among traders. So… you will understand why i make this as the first part of my lesson. This is the most important thing you must know before you enter this world. If you don’t ready about the risk, i recommend you to avoid this world. Because it’s better you do the conventional works than got stressed when doing this type of job. Many of seminar guru only give some bullshit promise. They only said the good part of trading. If trading can make you rich, of course it can happen the opposite way. So the most important what i want to said here is you must follow these rules before enter this trading world. There are only 2 rules

1. Never use money for trading from debt

I met a lot of trader use the money for their trading from debt. This is really really risky. Almost all trader who start learn about trading going bankrupt for the 1st and 2nd year of his learning journey. So it’s really really unrecommended to use money from debt.

2. Use  money you can afford to loose

It’s related to the first rule. Better use your own money for trading. I recommned you to use your free money. What do i mean “free money”? It’s money you don’t use. It can be your saving account, your certificate of deposit, your excessive fund from property, etc. So it will be allright if you loose them. It of course feel hurt but it will not make you feel like this is the end of the world, or some thing like that. So you still can continue your life.

If you agree to follow 2 rules above, you may start learning about trading. What i want you to notice is the statement “Stock/Option/Forex Market can make you rich fast”. I think you frequently read/heard this statement. What i want to add in this statement is “It’s also the good way to make you poor fast”. It’s not a jokes. I just want you to clear enough about the risk. This  is true. Most Traders expect an instant reward, which is something that is completely unrealistic. Positive results will not just come because a Trader expended energy, the Markets do not really care how much time and effort is put in. There is no ‘Time=Reward ‘ equation in any trading Market.

The last part of tips i can give you is Never Stop Learning. A good trader not born that way. a good Trader is only ever somebody that has been taught well. A good Trader has been willing to expand their thought process, and to willingly move outside of their own comfort zone.

From today, i tried to post some basic knowledge about investing and trading. This is usefull especially for them who don’t know too much about investing and trading field.

I already attended couple of trading seminar workshop in my country. Average fee of the workshop is about $800 – $2000 here. I’m sure it’s must be more expensive in the other country. And i am totally disagree about this price actually. Why? Because what they teach to us is only the basic. We can get all the material from books or the internet easily. It’s impossible to master this field in just couple of days workshop. Almost all successful investor & trader i know, they have minimum 2 year experiences of trading before generating some consistent income. Most of them ever got severe losses on their first 6 months of trading. This is very common. So i assume it’s ok there’s fee for that workshop, but not that expensive. I think the fair price for these workshop is about $100. And the bad thing i found here is most of the teacher isn’t trading for living. They know about trading but they just make small profit from it. Just based on that, they dare to open some seminar and teach some students. This what i dislike about the trading workshop seminar in Indonesia. I don’t know how about workshop seminar in the other country. So i tried to summarize all of material i’ve learn from these workshop. And these material is the same material if you attended workshop around. It’s just more completed i assume. In my previous post, i already made a tutorial about how to Open Account on Optionsxpress. And now, here i want to share with you how to open account on Think or Swim (it’s known as TOS). This broker has a lot of advantage than Optionsxpress. So if you already decide to trade with real money, i recommend this broker to use. Most of the time, i use analysis and trade using TOS Desktop (TOS Software).

So why we have to play in TOS? What is the advantage?

1. Have best software to analyze

2. Chart features is the best among all broker software, i ever used lot of chart software from OX & IB (Interactive Brokers). But for me TOS Chart Features is the best chart software to used

3. Java Based. Not Web Based

4. Data Streaming, so you don’t have to refresh all the time to know the latest price (like OX) if you want to trade.

5. There is Paper Money (Virtual) Account to used

6. Cheap commission. Only $1.25 per trade

7. It’s not like IB, no Cancel Fee if you cancel the trade

How to Open Account on TOS?

1. First enter www.thinkorswim.com

2. Click Open an Account and click Start Opening an Account

3. Fill your Personal Data Registration

4. If finished, click Register

5. Click Individual : Margin and a pop up show like below

6. Name your Nickname and click Select this Account

7. You’ll review your data once again, make sure it’s already correct. At the bottom of the page there are security question. Fill it carefully and better to notes that. If you finished checking all the data, you can click Save & Continue

8. After that, you will be go to login page like below

9. Enter username and password as you enter before. After you login, you will be asked to fill Verification Code. Check your email, and Copy Paste the code on the textbox

10. After you click Submit after entering Verification Code, there will be several statement you must read and agree. Just fill your name on Signature and click Save & Continue like below

11. After several statement, you will enter this page

12. All you need to send is your ID Card, W-8BEN that already Filled & Signature Card. You can scan and send them via email at support@thinkorswim.com

How to fill W-8BEN Form : Fill number 1-5 with your data and check the 9A checkbox and fill it with your country and signature them

13. After all of this finished, all you need to do is deposit your money to your account.

Deposit :

Just use Wire Transfer via your Local Bank. Usually there is bank fee transfer must payed + another $15 fee transfer charged on the fund you transfered. Need about 1-2 days to delivered

14. After this all done, all you need to do is to download the software and login to it

15. After your download finished. Click Think Desktop icon to run the software

16. It ready to use

Many of my colleagues ask me similar question like this “How you can make money on Stocks? How you trade online?” It’s a simple question. But seems, there still lot of people out there who don’t know where they have to start if they want to trading online. For you who totally blind about this field, first i recommend you to understand how the risk investing / trading stock/option/forex/futures/CFDs. The most important thing you must understand is you can loss all your money if you don’t have the correct trading mindset. So the first step to decide you want to enter this field or not is you know the risk and you can afford for the risk. If you ready for that, you can step to the next step. The second step is to learn the basic about investing & trading. There are lot of free knowledge about this in the internet. You also can buy some books about this in the bookstore. I will not explain about this on this post. If you already know about the basic, the third step is to open account on brokers.

For stocks & options, i reccomend 4 online brokers i’ve already tried. They are Optionsxpress, Interactive Brokers, Think or Swim, Tradestation. Some people recommend E*Trade, but i haven’t tried it yet. As i hear last year, this broker didn’t accept Indonesian Trader. That’s why i don’t registered to them. I don’t know how the rule for now. Maybe if i already tried, i will share with you here.

So. From this post, i want to give you a tutorial about how to open account on one of the online brokers i recommended, Optionsxpress.

1. Open www.optionsxpress.com and click Open an Account

Page 1 : Open An Account

2. Type Country of Permanent Resident with country where you living, then choose Individual Account, then choose Cash/Margin, then click Options, after that click Next Step

Page 2 : Getting Started

3. Fill Email with your active email, fill email confirmation once more (use your true email), then fill your desired Username (min 6 char), type your Password (must consist letter and number, ex : trader88), then confirm your password. Choose desired Secret Question and the Secret Answer (this is useful, if you forget your password), then click Save and Continue

Page 3 : Account Holder Info

4. Fill First Name & Last Name only. The type your Passport /Gov ID# as written on the Your Government Identity Card / Passport. Fill your Date of Birth, Marial Status and Dependents (how much children you have on your family). After that, click Save and Continue

Page 4 : Contact Information

5. Fill Address Line 1 with your home address where you living right now (continue on Line 2 if not enough). Postal Code must be filled. Fill Phone (Day) with your telephone number where you can be contacted on the morning & afternoon. Fill Phone (Eve) if your number can be contacted is different from Phone (Day) number on evening. Fill Phone (Mobile) if you have mobile phone number.  After that click Save and Continue

Page 5 : Employement Information

6. If  you want to fill Employment Status with Employed its Ok. But i recommend you to fill it with Retired, then there will be no question asking about your work. Then click No on three question below that.

7. Choose Individual on Select the type of beneficial owner. Then Click Yes on question below (Is the beneficial owner a resident within the meaning of the income tax treaty between the United States and a foreign country?). The Name of Country will appear. Then Click No on the rest of question on this page  Then Click Next Step.

Page 6 : Investment Background

Check Growth & Income as Investment Objectives. Then check all Trading Stratregis To Be Utilized.

Fill Years of Stock Trading Experiences with 2. Fill Annual Stock Trades with 120.Fill the same amount on Option Trading Experiences and Annual Option Trades as Stock. Click Yes on Are you experienced in trading online? question. After that click Save and Continue.

Page 7 : Trader Profile

Fill Liquid Net Worth, Annual Income, Net Worth with less than $25.000. Fill Tax Bracket with 0-15%, Choose No Thanks – please do not sweep/invest my free cash credit balance for Money Market Fund Sweep question. Choose Yes – I do not object to the disclosure of such information for SEC Rule 14B-1(C) Election.

You can choose Yes or No Thanks for the Secure Funds Transfer PIN Setup. Leave empty on Promotional Code. Choose Friend for How did you hear about us?. Leave the checkbox on Email Offers & Announcements. After that click Save and Continue

Page 9 : Terms and Conditions of Your Account

Check checkbox on Customer Aggrements and click Save and Continue

Our Register in OptionsXpress now finished. Print the form and fill it with your handwriting and signature. After finished send the documents via mail to OptionsXpress. After this, click Finished

Now you can login to your OptionsXpress account (include Virtual Trade Account).

After your account in OptionsXpress is finished, now you can learn to trade by using virtual account. Virtual Account means that you trade with real market data but with fake money. It’s assume that you already have couple of bucks on your account. Be sure to practice first before decide to trade with your real money.

- Open www.optionsxpress.com and click Login

- Click ToolBox and choose Virtual Trading. Then click Launch Virtual Trade on the right side of the screen

- Now Virtual Trading is ready to use
