Mac OS X is an OS that is highly optimized in performance. That’s one of the reason why i love Mac. Even there are some weakness compared to Windows operating system, i still prefer using Mac OS X for my daily works. The combination of aesthetic and minimalist design of the operating system make the user can use Mac for hours without problems. Although it has been optimized, the Mac can sometimes be slow because of several things. The following will be given some tips for optimizing the performance of Mac OS X.
1. Clean Desktop
By leaving files and folders on the desktop, it will directly give a workload when you want to display the screen. Indirectly, this process will slows down computer performance, even only a little. Make a folder called “Archive” and keep all the files and folder to the Archive folder.
Displaying Hard Disk icon (Macintosh HD) on the desktop will not help much for your activity. You can hide it from your Desktop by opening Finder Preferences and turn off all the “Show these items on the deskop“.

Couple days ago, i have problem with my Finder. The spotlight that i usually use to find the file in my Macbook suddenly stop working. It didn’t give any result (no result) even the file i was searching is exist on the folder. This make me a little bit frustrated, because i frequently use the spotlight to search the file in my macbook for my job. After tried several tips that i found in Google, here are the working one.

Today is sunday. So, i am relaxing myself today. I done several things in my Mac OS X, i remove all unused application on my Dock, i change my wallpaper background, i arrange bookmarks in my Firefox and i open and check my Address Book. When i check my Address Book, it is completely a mess. Couple months ago, i synced my Address Book with Yahoo. I found a lot of name that are not standard. So today, i decide to delete all my contact in Address Book, except several people data that i manually input. And i suddenly thought that it might be better if I sync my Address Book with Facebook. Couple days ago, Google officially launched their new software, Google Drive. Today i has already tested this Google software. Google Drive is service that make it as home of all your files beside your computer hard drive. Google Drive can store up to 5 Gb (5120 MB). You can upgrade storage if you feel not enough with the existing storage. With Google Drive, you can access your files anywhere as long there is internet connection and Google Account. Google Drive is available for PC, Mac and Android devices. iPhone and Ipad version still in development and be launched soon.
What we can do with this Google Drive?

If you already familiar with Google Docs, Google Drive will replace Google Docs functionality. You can create documents, spreadsheets and presentations files and store them on Google Server. One of many reason why i use Macbook as my primary laptop is because the superior security from its Operating System, Mac OS X. Using Mac OS X means no virus, no trojan and no malware. But couple years ago, since the first virus found, Mac OS X is no longer invulnerable as we know it for couple of years. And today, it was turn out that Mac OS X is not as safe as before. According to report from Dr. Web (one of Russian antivirus company), there are more than half million Apple Mac computers have been infected by Trojan called “Flashback” or sometimes called as “BackDoor.Flashback.39“.
According to Dr. Web report, about 600,000 Mac computers have been installed by that malware and make them to be one of “botnet”. Most of the infected Mac computers reside in United States, Canada and United Kingdom. There has been no official statement from Apple regarding this issue. But Apple has released a security update to prevent this. I personally has update my Java using the last update Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 7 just now. It should fixed the security hole.

One of weakness from Parallel Desktop compared to the other multi operating system software in Mac (VMWare, Bootcamp, etc) is the lack of driver support. I experienced this discomfort when i am studying chinese in Tianjin, China. Because i must use Windows to connect the internet in Tianjin, so i must use a lot of internet software for Windows too. When i use Skype to make a phone call to my mother, i just found out that the video webcam doesn’t work. I only can speak to my mom but can’t see the video. During my stay in China, one of the most frustated thing beside the lack of vegetarian food is about blocked internet website here. One of reason why i love Mac OS X so much is because there is Adium as my primary messenger software. Adium Messenger support multiple account including MSN, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, AOL Messenger, ICQ, QQ, Facebook, Twitter, etc. So what you need to do is just open Adium, and your messenger account are all online. Only Skype account doesn’t supported by Adium. One of advantage of Adium Messenger compared to many messenger software is it is very customizable.
