When you search on Google, sometimes you will see rating star below each row of each engine result that indicate how good the page of a website based on visitor opinions. This star rating make your page more interesting, because people will assume that the page you has written is useful and interesting. To add this star rating, you must connect your website with Google social media, Google Plus. So, if you don’t have Google Plus account, first you have to register at plus.google.com.

1. Login to your Google Plus Page and click Profile on the left.

2. Click Edit Profile

How to Customize Your Sidebar Widget in Blogger (Blogspot)

For those of you who love to modify your Blog based on Blogger (Blogspot) CMS, here I give you more tips to enhance the appearance of your blog. This time i will share you a tips about how to customize the widget (sidebar) in your blog. Did you know that you can modify many things on widget in blogger, from adding icon beside the sidebar title, placing images beside label and change the font, color, border of the widget. I’ll give an example for the widget that I have customized follow by step by step guide how to modify it. Next, you can create your own widgets based on your own creativity.

The first thing to do you have to enter your Blogger Dashboard. Next thing you must go to Template and click Edit HTML. Click Proceed.

You can change the Title and Content of your Sidebar. To be able to do this, you must understand a little about CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). For those who do not understand what is CSS, I recommend to learn first in W3Schools CSS website. The next thing you should do is find the ID of the widget sidebar that you use. Since each of the widget ID is different (depending on the template), then you must be creative to find the code. Normally i always using keyword search “sidebar” to find it. My blog is using the Blogger original template. The following codes are the code of my sidebar widget.

My Blogger Website have only 26 Sitemap submitted in Google Webmaster Tools. How to fix it?

One of the most important factor for your website to be visited by many visitors is reach a good ranking in Google Search Engine. However, to be ranked at Google, first of all you have to make sure that your blog posts/pages already indexed by Google. One of the main tools to manage this index thing is Google Webmaster Tools. Via Google Webmaster Tools, we can submit XML Sitemap of our website to get indexed in Google. But some time ago when I checked some of my old blogger blogs, I find something strange. It turns out that my blog 2 not fully submitted in Webmaster Tools. Both of the website have only 26 submitted and indexed URLs. After I did resubmit sitemap, nothing has changed. Website still only have 26 submitted content. So, how to resolve this? Follow these steps to resolve this issue.

Why Google only indexed 26 URL

Actually, when you submit a sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools, your sitemap website will be automatically monitored by Google. So if you create new pages or posts on your website, Webmaster Tools will automatically submit the new url to get indexed in Google Search Engine. But if you have made 26 posts in the blog, sometimes Google doesn’t index everything. This is what happened on 2 of my blogger website. Why this is can happen? This is because the blogger platform itself. Because it is free platform, Blogger sometimes is not optimized. That is the reason why I still prefer WordPress rather than Blogger for CMS.

How to make Google index more than 26 URL of your website

To overcome this, just follow these steps. The trick is very simple and easy.

  1. Login to your Blogger Dashboard
  2. Check how many posts you already created
  3. Copy below code based on number of posts you already checked on point 2For posts less than 500 
     atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500

    For posts less than 1000

     atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=501&max-results=500

    For posts less than 1500

     atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1001&max-results=500

    and so on… Example :
    If you have 612 posts on your blogs, then you must add two code which are :

    atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500
atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=501&max-results=500
  4.  Go to Google Webmaster Tools and login
  5. Choose the domain
  6. Click Site configuration > Sitemaps

Website Traffic suddenly drop into zero. How to fix this problem?

Yesterday, i was shocked. One of my new website has problem. WordPress Site Stats showed that my website traffic suddenly drop to zero. Then, i checked Google Analytics to make sure that this is not because of WordPress plug-in error, but i found that it’s true. My website traffic really dropped to zero. It’s from averagely 100 / day to zero. Oh my god… What happens?

First thing to do, i try to search on Google using site:”mywebsite.com” to check if my website are still indexed by google. Fortunately, it is still indexed. So it’s not Google deindex. But even it’s still indexed when i search each keyword of the post, i can’t found any of my website page on the first 10 Google page. Then i try to googling about how to fix this problem, but there are no really good answer. There are a lot of assumptions without any proved solution to fix this problem. Then i was trying several things to fix this problem. In the end, I finally found the main reason why this can happen.

Honestly, i change a lot of things in my website. I switch the template, change the permalink setting, install some new plug-in. And these are the reason why my website have a problem with google.  And later, i just realize that the problem maybe come from the sitemap. To know is there a problem or not with the sitemap, i go to my Google Webmaster Tools. Then, i checked the website sitemap (sitemap.xml).

And there are a lot of problems found on errors detail report at the bottom of the page. It seems that the problem comes from the permalink. Google crawlers found a lot of errors because of this permanent link modification. It happens because they still use the old sitemap.

So, i opened my website wordpress dashboard again to rebuilt my sitemap manually. Because i use Google XML Sitemap plug-in, i just go to Settings and click XML-Sitemap. And then i click rebuild the sitemap from the sentence “If you changed something on your server or blog, you should rebuild the sitemap manually“.

After that, i go back to Google Webmaster Tools and resubmit the sitemap.

After this, i waited for about an hour before check my website statistics again. And Bingo !!! The problem is solved. My traffic is back to normal.

If you are experiencing the same problem, you can take steps like what i wrote above. But there are some other possibilities beside this case. The most common case is your website being thrown to Google Sandbox. If your website enter the Google Sandbox, then your website is no longer indexed by Google. You can check this via Google Search by typing “site: yourwebsite.com“. If the result is 0, then it means that your website has been deindexed (being thrown to Google Sandbox)

How to Display Chinese Characters in Wordpress

Since I am now studying in China and began to use a lot of Chinese language in daily life, then it seems it also happens to my blogging habits. I’m starting to create some articles using chinese language. I’ve already tried it in blogger, and the result is no problem at all. However, when I tried it on wordpress results were different. When I write chinese characters in WordPress it displayed only ??? not a characters like this 汉语文章. After searching on google I found the Lee Ping Loon article about how to solve this problem. Finally, my wordpress can display chinese characters.

1. Enter your website control panel http://yourwebsite.com/cpanel

2. Look for Database Section and click phpMyAdmin

3. Click Databases and then choose which database of your blog

4. You can change all the table in database, but i personally only modify wp_comments and wp_posts. Click Edit button

6. Change the Collation into utf8_unicode_ci and click Save

Why you are blogging?

Make Money from Google Adsense is one of the hottest topic in the internet for the last 10 years. As we know together, the words “Make money from Google Adsense” identically with Blogging. Since blogging become popular, there are a lot of blogger who love to writing article on the internet. There are a lot of reason, why they blogging. So, why they are blogging?

That’s the common question we frequently ask for all bloggers who usually writing on blog. The most reason that people said why they are blogging are to distribute their hobby or to make money. I know there are several other reason like to promote product of business, to outporing mind, to spend free time, etc.

I think the reason to blogging doesn’t matter, because the important thing is what our purpose in blogging? The answer is to share something. Because this is the strongest intention to keep our passion alive for writing article in blog. You don’t think too much about how much money will you get from blogging. Generally, beginner blogger can’t survive long enough blogging, because they usually have intentions to earn some money from their blog. So if they didn’t earn money in the first, second or third month, they will have no willing to writing again.

Calm down… Just have an intention to share doesn’t mean we can not make money from blog. After read some success story of several people who have a lot of income just from Adsense, i have an conclusion. At first, most of them don’t have an intention to earn some money. What they want do is to share. As the time pass through, money come by itself.

So from now on, just change our intention. Use blog to share something to others. Don’t think to much about the earning you’ll get from your blog. JUST LET THE MONEY COME TO YOU !!!
